Northrop Grumman Completes Successful Testing on Solid Fuel Ramjet Concept

 Projectile concept shows potential to extend munition range to more than 100km.

BALTIMORE – Nov. 30, 2020 – Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE: NOC) successfully completed multiple rounds of tests on its Solid Fuel Ramjet (SFRJ) tactical engine configuration – a technology to enable long range precision fires, one of the U.S. Army’s key priorities.

Conducted as part of phase one of the U.S. Army’s XM1155 Extended-Range Artillery Projectile (ERAP) program, the SFRJ tests validated gun-launched survivability and performance predictions, and demonstrated the potential of extending projectile range to more than 100 kilometers, which is a significant increase compared to current fielded artillery projectiles.

The XM1155 ERAP program will provide an extended range, guided 155mm artillery round capable of defeating moving and stationary targets in all terrain and weather conditions. The munition system is being designed to provide multi-domain battlespace dominance against high level targets.

“Successful completion of the rigorous tests of the Solid Fuel Ramjet demonstrates maturation of the technology to survive the very challenging gun-launch environment and significantly extend the range of the U.S. military’s current field artillery with a high level of confidence,” said Pat Nolan, vice president, missile products, Northrop Grumman.

Work under the contract will be completed at the Allegany Ballistics Laboratory in Rocket Center, West Virginia, Ronkonkoma, New York; Plymouth, Minnesota; and in partnership with SPARC Research based out of Warrenton, Virginia.

Russian Army is looking for new sniper rifle - a successor for SVD rifle. New semi automatic rifle will be in two caliber - 7,62×51 (.308 Win.) and 8,6×70 (.338 Lapua Magnum).

Exercise “Winter Shield 2020”

From 21 November to 4 December, Latvia hosts international military exercise “Winter Shield” to test and upgrade the combat capabilities of Latvian and allied Armed forces units along with their integration and interoperability within Baltic region’s collective defence system.

Participants of military exercise “Winter Shield” include military personnel from Land Force Mechanised Infantry Brigade, National Guard, Special Operations Command, NATO Enhanced Forward Presence Battle Group deployed to Latvia, Baltic Battalion and US Special Operations Command Europe. 

Baltic Battalion and NATO Enhanced Forward Presence Battle Group Latvia will use “Winter Shield” to practice joint regional defence operations and demonstrate compatibility and mobility of their units. 

A significant aspect of the exercise is also air to land integration with various air assets, including “AH-64 Apache” Attack Helicopters from the 101st Combat Aviation Brigade falling under US Army Europe (USAREUR) and Operation “Atlantic Resolve”. 

“Winter Shield” exercise includes joint special operations training for Special Operations Command, National Guard Special Operations Unit and US Special Operations Command Europe units. 

“Winter Shield” special operations component includes joint training activities for National Armed Forces units, US Special Forces and NATO Enhanced Forward Presence Battle Group Latvia. The aim of the training is to test the integration and joint operations capabilities, i.e. the ability to work together with National Guard and Land Force Mechanised Infantry Brigade units to improve command and control, coordination, interoperability and compatibility.

Serbian army unveils it's new T-72B1MS White Eagle MBT

Serbian army unveils its new acquisition Russian T-72B1MS White Eagle MBT. In the official service entry ceremony of the new MBTs, attended the Aleksandar Vučić President of the Serbian Republic. Serbian Army in the ceremony univeled 11 T-72MC tanks. According the serbian sources, Russia will ship totaly 30 T-72 main battle tanks to the serbian army.

According to the Aju Business Daily, ROK Army select the Hyundai Rotem to provide military unmanned vehicles:

Hyundai Rotem, a subsidiary of South Korea's Hyundai auto group, was selected to provide multi-purpose unmanned vehicles capable of carrying supplies, searching battlefields and evacuating patients. Within six months, the company will supply two units and a support system for pilot operation.
